Mahomet-Seymour Athletes Shine at Apollo Conference Indoor Invitational with Individual and Relay Victories

Two Mahomet-Seymour senior athletes were individual winners on Saturday (March 9) in the Apollo Conference Indoor Invitational at Mount Zion.

Ava Boyd won the 1,600 meters with her fastest time of the season, 5 minutes, 21.22 seconds. She finished 2.83 seconds ahead of her closest pursuer.

Lauren Burr was the 400-meter champion, clocking a time of 1:02.90. She was victorious by .97.

Burr finished second in the long jump (16 feet 1 ½ inches).

The Bulldogs also had one championship relay. The 800-meter foursome of Evelyn Hillard, Burr, Kara Carney and Madalyn Marx posted a winning time of 1:48.69.

Other individual leaders for M-S were Carney (fourth in the 60-meter hurdles, 11.12 seconds), Chloe Bundren (fifth in the 1,600 meters, 5:58.62), Hannah Martin (tied for sixth in the high jump, 4 feet, 5 inches), Hillard (seventh in the 60-meter dash, 8.57 seconds), Anniston Huff (seventh in the 800 meters, 2:33.64), Claire Johnson (seventh in the triple jump, 27 feet, 4 ¾ inches), Martin (eighth in the 400 meters, 1:07.14), Adelyn Boyd (ninth in the 60-meter hurdles, 11.25 seconds) and Ava Kersh (10th in the 200 meters, 29.69 seconds).

The Bulldogs had three other relays claim finishes among the top 10, including a 1,600-meter relay unit which featured Carney, Marx, Katherine Simmons and Kira Smith. Their combined time was 4:22.60.

A second M-S 800-meter relay ended in ninth place. Sharing the baton were Simmons, Huff, Cora Ummel and Martin. Their composite time was 1:57.99.

A second Bulldog 1,600-meter relay wound up in 10th place with a time of 4:43.90. The relay runners were Ava Boyd, Bundren, Jinan Abdo and Morgan Waisath.

No team scores were tabulated.

M-S will return to action on Saturday (March 23) at the unofficial indoor state meet at Illinois Wesleyan University, in Bloomington.
