Mahomet Relief: Delivery service to help raise funds for small businesses
The Village of Mahomet in conjunction with the Mahomet Chamber of Commerce met Wednesday to identify some Mahomet needs and put together volunteers who would tackle those needs.
Thursday the Mahomet Chamber of Commerce launched a delivery service to get goods from Mahomet IGA/Schnucks, Walgreens and CVS to residents in the 61853 area code.
To order delivery, the Chamber asks that Mahomet residents call 252-BULLDOG, email visitmahomet@gmail.com or go to www.visitmahomet.com and look under “For Delivery and Business Relief.”
There will be a 7-percent surcharge for deliveries that will go into an account at Fisher National Bank for small businesses in Mahomet. Additional donations, revenues and tips for delivery will also go into the business relief account.
“This part has not been ironed out, but will be managed by the Chamber of Commerce,” Chamber President Darwyn Boston said. “The Chamber will not be receiving any funds for our use. All funds will be used to support local businesses.”
The Village has also asked for access to financial access to the relief fund.
The details of the business relief are still being ironed out, but local leaders do know that there will be a committee, most likely composed of Chamber and Village officials, who will review business applications to receive the relief monies.
All relief money will remain separate from the Chamber and Village funds, which are located at Busey Bank.
