Zippia.com has named Mahomet as the #1 “Happiest Places in the Prairie State.”
Zippia.com, a site that helps people find careers and provides job search information, collected data on residents who have insurance, own a home and have a job to establish the list of 10 towns where people should be happiest based off of their employment and lifestyle.
The report also took into account the percentage of population that has a bachelor’s degree, the commute to work, the cost of living, if they have a family, if they own a home and the poverty rate. The study found that income helps to alleviate anxieties, but any amount over $70,000 “doesn’t help as much.”
All the data was collected from the 2010-2014 American Community Survey. 340 communities with more than 2,000 residents were considered.
With a Village population of 7,592, 78.5% of residents own their home and 70.7% are married.
“As it turns out, life is all rainbows and butterflies in Mahomet, the happiest place in Illinois,” the report states.
