Mahomet Public Library makes adjustments ahead of Tier 3 mitigations
The Mahomet Public Library has made adjustments to library services, effective Nov. 18 in response to Tier 3 mitigations that will go into effect on Friday.
In order to to minimize the amount of time patrons spend in the building the library will:
- Limit computer time (patron computers or personal devices) to 30 minutes or less, providing just enough time to check email or print documents,
- Suspend the use of study tables,
- Suspend notary public services, and
- Suspend staff assistance with computers.
At this time, building hours will remaining the same: Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm, Saturday-Sunday, 1-5pm, but the library is asking for patrons to do what’s needed, and not linger in the building.
The Mahomet Public Library recently extended high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the parking lot, so patrons can access the internet from their vehicles.
They also plan to have laptops available to check out soon.
The Mahomet Public Library also offers a locker service for patrons where items can be requested and picked up within 24 hours.
Materials available include those on the hold shelf or present in the library at the time of the request.
To find Mahomet Library items, search the library catalog, using “My Library” in the “Limit By” field. You can request items by placing hold requests through the catalog or by contacting the library by phone, email, or Facebook Messenger.
Requests will be filled in the order in which they are received. Patrons will be called when the order is ready, and need to be picked up in the library lockers within 24 hours.
“We will continue to monitor statistics and announcements at the county and state levels. If our region progresses to Tier 3 or the governor announces a stay-at-home order, we may need to close our doors, but we hope to provide service through our pick-up lockers and book returns, as well as phone and email support,” the library’s website says.
