Mahomet Parks receives grant for playground equipment at Barber Park
The Mahomet Parks and Recreation Department has received a grant to help pay for playground equipment at Barber Park.
The grant will account for 50-percent of the retail price of playground equipment that will be located near the parking lot and picnic tables at the facility known for soccer fields.
The reduction in playground equipment price coupled with the Open Space and Land Acquisition Development OSLAD grant that will also match up to $400,000 of Phase I of the parks renovations is a good step forward, Director Dan Waldinger said.
“The two grants combined is a really big gift for us, and allows us to have some flexibility in the budget, especially at a time when there’s a lot of unknowns, financially, so we’re pretty thrilled with that,” Waldinger said.
MPRD expects about $75,000 in savings with the grant.
Waldinger believes that the Village should be able to start on the first part of the project in summer of 2021. The Village has to wait for Gov. JB Pritzker to execute the OSLAD agreement, and then announce some fundraising efforts.
“I’ve already got one one potential sponsor that I’m ready to announce,” he said. “I just want to make sure that we have that agreement signed, sealed and delivered.”
