Mahomet Parks and Rec receives much needed donation
Fisher National Bank has donated $1,500 to the Mahomet Parks and Recreation Department to offset some of the loss associated with canceled spring programming.
According to a press release from Mahomet Parks and Rec, the $1500 donation will be used to help offset losses in revenue and has been earmarked to help purchase sanitation supplies, a touchless thermometer, masks and other important items that have not been budgeted previously.
“Basically, aside from some virtual programming we have had zero revenue coming in since things started, stated Dan Waldinger, MPRD Director. Mahomet participants have been given options on programs to transfer, refund or donate their fee.
“Fortunately, our community continues to step up to help lessen the blow, a good amount of folks have donated fees, and we could not be more grateful, it’s really help fill a major gap in the budget and now with this donation from Fisher, we can charge ahead with fall programs while providing supplies to help everyone stay safe and feel confident going forward. We really live in a special place.”
MPRD continues to accept donations, large or small to help offset the financial impact of COVID-19. Donations can be made in person, by mail to 503 East Main Street in Mahomet or online at www.mahometrecreation.com. Any additional proceeds will be earmarked for the future Barber Park Sprayground/Playground project.
Although much of the spring and summer programs have been cancelled or postponed, MPRD has recently reopened their office and plans on charging ahead with its fall gamut of activities, including the very popular youth soccer program. The soccer deadline is July 14. Program information and updates can be found on their website at www.mahometrecreation.com.
