Mahomet named among top 50 safest cities in Illinois
Mahomet has once again been recognized as a quality community to live in as The SafeWise Report named the community of nearly 14,000 residents one of the top 50 safest communities in Illinois.
To compile this report, SafeWise analysts considered public safety initiatives and the most recent FBI crime data from 2013 to rank these cities, which all have a minimum population of 5,000 people.
The Mahomet Police Department received recognition in the report for keeping resident and business property safe throughout the year. With 7.38 property crimes per 1,000 residents, Mahomet stood out among other recipients.
The report also noted Mahomet sees 1.31 violent crimes per 1,000 residents per year. Mahomet came in at 36 on the list of 50.
Nearby Monticello was ranked as the fifth safest community in Illinois. Monticello was noted for their state-of-the-art emergency preparedness and notification system, CivicReady, to alert Monticello residents when an emergency arises.
