The Village of Mahomet Board of Trustees has moved the approval of an engineering services agreement with Farnsworth Group to April’s consent agenda.
This agreement, valued at $91,000, will initiate Phase 2 of the Main Street Streetscape Project, focusing on planning and preliminary design.
The project, which builds on the Downtown Masterplan adopted in 2019, aims to enhance the 500-600 blocks of East Main Street and adjacent areas such as Lincoln Street and Freedom Plaza. The scope includes schematic designs for streetscape improvements, wayfinding signage, and high-level planning for Freedom Plaza.
The Farnsworth Group’s work will include tasks such as drafting schematic designs, preparing preliminary cost estimates, and identifying potential grants. The timeline for the project spans several months, with key deliverables expected between April and November 2025.
This phase follows earlier efforts in downtown development, including streetscape improvements on the 400 block of East Main Street. The village is financing this initiative through its downtown Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district, which reallocates a portion of property tax revenues from local governments into a dedicated fund used to cover the costs of public infrastructure and other improvements within a designated area, with the aim of fostering economic development.
