Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Reis Claybrooke
Mahomet-Seymour High School’s junior golfer, Reis Claybrooke, continues to stand out, making his mark as one of the top young golfers in the region.
At the recent IHSA Class 2A Regional tournament held on Sept. 27, Claybrooke fired a remarkable score of 73, earning him a tie for second place individually in a competitive 55-player field. Notably, his performance was just two shots behind the regional medalist.
Earlier in the month, on September 14th, at the University of Illinois Course in Savoy, he fired a season-best 34, a highlight that significantly contributed to Mahomet-Seymour’s team triumph against two other schools.
In another notable achievement, at the John Macek Memorial Tournament on Sept. 6, Claybrooke’s impressive score of 72 saw him share medalist honors. However, a scorecard playoff placed him in second position, but his performance was undeniably instrumental in Mahomet-Seymour’s team victory in the 18-team tournament.
At the Danville Invitational on Sept. 1, his score of 71 secured him a commendable third place individually, significantly helping the Bulldogs clinch the team championship title. A few days prior, at Monticello Country Club, Claybrooke clinched medalist honors with a carded 36, earning a hard-fought one-stroke victory.
Claybrooke kicked off the season with a first-place finish at the Redbird/Raider Classic, where he charted a 2-under-par 69, displaying an impeccable round of five birdies, 10 pars, and three bogeys.
