Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Raegan O’Donnell
In her first year of high school competition, Raegan O’Donnell is making a name for herself as one of Mahomet-Seymour High School’s standout athletes. Despite being a freshman, O’Donnell has already broken multiple school records and played a key role in leading the Bulldogs to several meet victories this season.
At the latest meet on October 1st, Raegan set a new school record in the 50-yard freestyle with an impressive time of 24.19 seconds, securing first place. She didn’t stop there, also winning the 500-yard freestyle in 5:21.20, demonstrating her versatility and endurance.
Raegan’s contributions extend beyond individual events. She has been instrumental in the Bulldogs’ relay success, helping the team dominate their opponents. In the 200-yard medley relay, she joined her sister Talynn O’Donnell, Callie Lu, and Caroline Mills to finish first with a time of 1:57.06. Additionally, Raegan, along with Mills, Lainey Howard, and Karsyn Johnson, won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a cumulative time of 1:44.52.
This season, the Bulldogs have broken school records in seven out of 12 events, and Raegan has been a driving force in that success. Her speed and determination have not only led to individual accolades but also contributed to the team’s dominance in relays, where she has helped set new school records.
Earlier in the season, Raegan was part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that shattered the 2022 school record. Along with Talynn O’Donnell, Caroline Mills, and Lainey Howard, Raegan helped post a time of 3:44.03, marking another major achievement for the Bulldogs.
With meets like the upcoming Urbana Invitational on October 12th, fans are eager to see how this talented freshman will continue to shape the future of Mahomet-Seymour swimming.
In her debut season, Raegan O’Donnell has already left her mark on the record books, and her future in the sport looks incredibly bright.
