Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Mateo Casillas
Mahomet-Seymour’s Mateo Casillas is just two wins shy of moving into the 10th place spot on the Bulldog’s wrestling record book.
The 5’11”, 195 lb. senior currently has 133 high school victories for the Bulldogs and is the only Mahomet-Seymour wrestler currently unbeaten for the 2022-23 season.
Casillas shares the lead for most pins on the Bulldog roster at 9, one of which he picked up on Dec. 13 when Mahomet-Seymour defeated Clinton. He also claimed three pins on Dec. 10 in the Bloomington Super Duals. The fastest pin was in 31 seconds.
After a successful season helping the Mahomet-Seymour Football team to an 11-1 record, the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville baseball recruit has claimed victories against Centennial, Chatham Glenwood, Collinsville, Edwardsville, and O’Fallon.
Casillas was also named to the Apollo Conference football first team as a defensive end in 2021 and 2022.
