Mahomet-Seymour Junior High’s Marco Casillas captured consecutive I.E.S.A. State titles on March 8. The 2024 I.E.S.A. Wrestling State Championship witnessed Marco claiming the title in the 167-pound weight class, marking a historic moment in junior high wrestling.
Last year, Marco dominated the 145-pound weight class, and this year, he ascended even higher. His journey through the season was nothing short of spectacular, culminating in a perfect 42-0 record. This flawless streak is part of a broader narrative of dominance, as over the past two years, Marco has maintained an unbeaten run with a cumulative record of 83-0.
Marco’s path to the championship was marked by decisive victories, each more telling than the last. In the opening round, he showcased his prowess by defeating Nathan O’Neill with a fall at 2:09. The quarterfinal saw Marco overpower William Withrow, concluding the match in a mere 44 seconds. His semifinal bout against Parker Toole ended in 1:50, further establishing Marco’s dominance on the mat. The final was a display of skill and strength, where Marco triumphed over Cartrell Merriweather with a fall at 2:22, securing his state championship title.
