Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Mahomet-Seymour Volleyball

For the first time in Mahomet-Seymour High School history, the volleyball team is headed to the IHSA Class 3A state tournament. The Bulldogs’ remarkable postseason journey continues today, Nov. 15, as they take on Chicago DePaul Prep in the state semifinals at CEFCU Arena at Illinois State University.

Under the guidance of head coach Stan Bergman, the Bulldogs have shattered school records and defied expectations. Their thrilling three-set victory over Mascoutah in the super-sectional match on Nov. 11 sealed their spot in the state’s final four, marking a historic milestone for the program. Mahomet-Seymour is now assured of bringing home a state trophy, which will be the school’s ninth across all sports.

Postseason Dominance

The Bulldogs entered the postseason riding high on confidence after toppling the state’s top-ranked Class 3A team, Normal University High, in the sectional championship on Oct. 31. That victory fueled their belief that they could take on any opponent, a mindset that carried them through the Elite Eight matchup against Mascoutah.

In the super-sectional match, Mahomet-Seymour showcased resilience and precision. Ellie Barker’s 12 kills, Lily Bosworth’s six blocks, and Ava Yeakel’s unwavering defense anchored the Bulldogs’ performance. Erin Dallas’ strategic serving gave the team an early advantage in the first set, and her sister, Ellie Dallas, orchestrated a clean offense with 20 assists.

A Record-Breaking Season

The Bulldogs enter the state semifinals with a stellar 37-3 record, the most wins in a single season in program history. They are on a 17-match winning streak.

The Road Ahead

Mahomet-Seymour faces a formidable opponent in Chicago DePaul Prep (37-3) in today’s semifinal match. Both teams boast identical records and are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, in the final Maxpreps state rankings for Class 3A. A win would send the Bulldogs to Saturday’s championship match, where they would face the winner of Bartonville Limestone and Crystal Lake Prairie Ridge.
