Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Madalyn Marx
Mahomet-Seymour High School’s sophomore Madalyn Marx has claimed the IHSA Class 2A state championship in the 400-meter dash. This triumph not only secured her a state title at Eastern Illinois University on May 18 but also set a new school record.
Madalyn Marx outpaced her competitors with a time of 56.11 seconds, narrowly edging out Leah Smith from Chicago South Shore, who clocked in at 56.18 seconds, and Galesburg’s Syriah Boyd at 56.37 seconds.
This victory wasn’t just a win but a testament to resilience. Earlier in the week, Marx faced a flare-up of a foot injury, casting doubt on her participation.
Marx’s journey to the state championship was marked by a remarkable indoor season as well, where she claimed the unofficial 400-meter indoor state title in Bloomington with a time of 57.55 seconds.
Beyond her individual success, Marx contributed significantly to her team’s overall performance. She was a crucial part of the Mahomet-Seymour relay teams, helping the 1,600-meter quartet to a school record and a second-place finish, and the 800-meter relay team to a strong sixth-place finish. Her efforts helped Mahomet-Seymour to a commendable sixth place overall among 71 scoring schools at the state meet.
