Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Jayvon Irwin

Senior Jayvon Irwin has been a dominant force for the Mahomet-Seymour track and field team, delivering outstanding performances across multiple events. In the recent Pontiac Class 2A Sectional on May 15, Irwin excelled in both individual and relay events, playing a crucial role in the Bulldogs’ team championship victory.

Pontiac Class 2A Sectional (May 15):

  • 100 Meters: Irwin claimed victory with a time of 10.98 seconds.
  • 200 Meters: He secured another first-place finish with a personal-best time of 22.28 seconds, marking the fourth-best performance in Mahomet-Seymour history for this event.
  • Relays: Irwin was a key member of two winning relay teams:
    • The 400-meter relay team, consisting of Travis Hoffman, Ryken Kirby, and Alex O’Brian, finished with a combined time of 43.26 seconds.
    • The 800-meter relay team, which included Alex O’Brian, Dylan Smith, and Kirby, clocked a time of 1:31.49.

Metamora A-B-C Meet (April 19):

  • 100 Meters: Irwin took top honors with a time of 11.34 seconds.
  • 200 Meters: He set a new personal-best while winning with a time of 22.74 seconds.
  • Relays: He was part of the winning 400-meter relay unit (Travis Hoffman, Ryken Kirby, and Alex O’Brian) that finished in 44.04 seconds.

Charleston Invitational (April 12):

  • 100 Meters: Irwin won with a time of 11.44 seconds.
  • 200 Meters: He ran a career-best 22.81 seconds to win the event.
  • Relays: Irwin contributed to the victorious 800-meter relay team (Steffen Kellner, Ryken Kirby, and Dylan Smith) that clocked a time of 1:34.36.

Apollo Conference Meet (May 2):

  • 100 Meters: Irwin finished first with a time of 11.40 seconds.

Pontiac Indoor Meet (March 14):

  • 60 Meters: Irwin was a double winner, securing first place with a personal-best time of 7.10 seconds.
  • 200 Meters: He won with a personal-best time of 23.14 seconds.

Irwin’s outstanding performances in these meets, both individually and as part of relay teams, have been instrumental in Mahomet-Seymour’s success this season.
