Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Isabelle Leyhe
Isabelle Leyhe has demonstrated exceptional skill, resilience, and determination this season, making her our Athlete of the Week.
Leyhe’s season has been marked by a series of remarkable accomplishments. In the recent Marty Williams Invitational, she secured the championship in the 120-pound weight class, contributing significantly to the Bulldogs’ runner-up finish in the 10-school tournament. Her journey to the title was nothing short of dominant, as she won all three of her bouts, including rapid pins in just 26 seconds and 1:25, showcasing her technical prowess and physical strength.
Earlier in the season, at the Joe Bee Girls’ Invitational in Springfield, Leyhe finished a commendable second in her weight class, achieving three pins with her fastest fall in 2:21. This result contributed to the Bulldogs securing the third-place trophy in a highly competitive 22-team event.
Leyhe’s success extends beyond individual tournaments. In the historic first girls’ dual meet in school history, she demonstrated her versatility by winning at 125 pounds with a pin in 2:21. At the Pontiac Girls’ Tournament, she continued her winning ways by capturing third place, recording pins for all three of her wins, her quickest in just 27 seconds.
With a remarkable 16-2 record this season, she has proven to be a reliable and formidable competitor. Her agility, technique, and mental toughness make her an exceptional athlete, and she serves as an inspiration to her teammates and young wrestlers.
