Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Gage Decker
Gage Decker, competing in the 157-pound weight class, has consistently demonstrated his prowess on the mat. His performance at the Sycamore Invitational was a testament to his skills, where he finished fifth with an impressive 4-1 tournament record, including two pins, the quickest in a remarkable time of 1:47. This result is just one in a series of strong showings at various events.
In the Red Schmitt Invitational in Granite City, Decker continued his run of form. He won two of his three bouts on the final day, including a significant pin in 3:36. His efforts helped the Bulldogs secure a commendable 12th place among 27 schools participating.
Decker’s consistency is further highlighted by his performance at the 43-school Rockford East Wrestling Invitational, where he emerged victorious in the 157-pound category. Winning all four of his matches, two of which were by pin, he demonstrated both technical skill and strategic acumen. His final pin in the championship round, timed at 2 minutes and 24 seconds, was a fitting climax to his dominance in the tournament.
