Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Emily Anand
In a season marked by fierce competition and personal bests, Emily Anand has emerged as the cornerstone of Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ cross-country team.
Anand’s impact was especially evident during the recent Apollo Conference meet on October 15 at Mount Zion, where she clocked a 3-mile career-best time of 18:17.00, finishing third overall in a competitive field of 52 runners. This performance helped her team clinch the conference title, with the Bulldogs scoring a low 38 points to secure the top spot over Mount Zion and Effingham. Anand, alongside teammates Taylor Mills and Cecily Smith, earned all-conference honors.
Throughout the season, Anand has shown an impressive level of consistency and tenacity. Earlier in the season, she set the pace at the Metamora Gene Jones Runnin’ Red Invitational, finishing 16th among 251 runners on a 2.94-mile course, earning a medal. Her best time on a full 3-mile course came during the Peoria Invitational at Detweiller Park, where she completed the race in 18:32.90, trimming nearly 22 seconds off her previous best.
With the Class 2A Sectional at Lake Land College in Mattoon on the horizon, Anand and her teammates are poised to continue their season with purpose and ambition. Her dedication and consistent performances this season make her a well-deserved choice for Athlete of the Week, showcasing her as not only a top runner but also a pivotal team leader.
