Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Deangelo Hughey

Mahomet-Seymour Junior Deangelo Hughey finished the 2023 outdoor track season the way he ended the indoor season—drawing attention with his times.

According to Athletic.net, Hughey is ranked second in Illinois’ Class 2A in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.04 and sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.47. For perspective, Hughey placed 2nd at the USATF Indoor Nationals in Kentucky on March 18 with a 50.15 time in the 400-m race. He also finished fourth in the 17-18-year-old category of the 200-m race, running a 22:48.

Hughey was a 2023 two-event Class 2A All-State sprinter, placing second in Class 2A in the 400 meters and fifth in the 200 meters. He currently holds three Mahomet-Seymour records in the 200-meter dash (21.47), the 400-meter dash (48.04), and on the 4×100 relay team (43.07).
