Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Cecily and Finley Smith
Cecily and Finley Smith made impressive marks in the Class 4A IESA Junior High Girls’ Track and Field State Meet on May 18 where they vaulted their way into the spotlight with Cecily securing first place and Finley taking a commendable third in the pole vault event.
Cecily Smith soared to victory with a remarkable vault of 10 feet, 1 inch, surpassing her previous state performance last year where she finished third with a clearance of 7 feet, 6 inches.
Meanwhile, Finley Smith also showcased her skill, clearing a height of 9 feet, 2 inches to earn her third-place finish, an improvement from her previous performance of 9 feet, 1 inch at the sectional meet held in Kankakee on May 11.
Beyond individual events, the twins contributed to their team’s overall success by participating in the 1,600-meter relay. Alongside teammates Annie Clements and Marissa Thompson, they finished 10th at state with a time of 4:22.93.
