Seeing Blake Wolter’s name in the headlines hasn’t been unusual as the 6’4” Bulldog made his way through the Mahomet-Seymour program.
But following a Mahomet-Seymour athlete who is receiving Major League Baseball attention is.
With a 99 mph fastball with a 2466 spin rate, all 30 MLB teams have sent scouts to watch Wolters over the course of the spring season. The University of Arizona recruit sat out his senior year of basketball season to focus on the upcoming Mahomet-Seymour baseball season.
The commitment has paid off. After 17 games, Wolters is batting .500, and has connected for 8 home runs and 31 RBIs.
Wolters threw his second no-hitter of the 2023 season this week. The Bulldogs defeated Centennial, 14-0, as Wolters struck out a season-high 14 batters, issuing one walk. His pitching velocity was clocked at 96-97 mph.
His other no-hitter came against Danville when Mahomet-Seymour won 15-0. He pitched a three-inning no-hitter – getting nine outs by strikeout – and issued one walk. Of the 55 pitches he threw, 33 were strikes, and his velocity was recorded at 95 mph.
