Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Adella Bird & Holland Martin 

Mahomet-Seymour Tennis No. 2 doubles Adella Bird and Holland Martin are an unstoppable duo who have amassed 13 wins and an Apollo Conference championship during the 2023 season.  

Check out some of their season highlights:

• Taylorville: In a showcase of skill, Martin bested her opponent at No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-2). Meanwhile, in the doubles, the formidable duo of Martin and Bird sealed an impressive 13th victory (6-0, 6-1).
• St. Joseph-Ogden: Further stamping their dominance, Bird and Martin recorded a 6-1, 6-0 triumph, improving their record to a formidable 4-0 for the season.
• Apollo Conference Championship: Bird and Martin, who, with their unmatched synergy, cruised through a pair of two-set sweeps to win at No. 2 doubles. Not just doubles specialists, both Bird (at No. 2 singles) and Martin (at No. 3 singles) clinched individual titles, winning twice in two-set sweeps.
• Lincoln: The duo continued their winning streak with their seventh consecutive victory against Lincoln, defeating Sarai Jackson and Ines Otero. Flying solo, Bird and Martin recorded wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
• Mattoon: Despite the team’s loss in the dual-meet, Martin and Bird shone through with a hard-fought win at No. 2 doubles.
• Urbana: This meet saw the dynamic duo achieve their 10th consecutive win. On the singles front, Martin and Bird also captured victories. 
• McNamara & Watseka: In both these matches, Martin and Bird dominated at No. 2 doubles, while also securing singles victories.
• Danville Schlarman Academy: Adding to their repertoire of wins, both Bird and Martin triumphed in singles, while also clinching a victory at No. 2 doubles.

With an unbeaten streak at No. 2 doubles and noteworthy performances in singles, Bird and Martin head into their final two regular season matches before entering the IHSA Regional Tournament.
