Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Addelyn Arbogast
Not too long ago, the Mahomet-Seymour community rallied behind a ‘Go Fund Me’ for Addelyn Arbogast, who had been diagnosed with a brain tumor, following an emergency surgery.
As M-S coach Lisa Martin recalled, the heart-wrenching video of Addelyn learning to walk again post-surgery was tagged with a potent quote: “if it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.”
Little did she know at the time, Addelyn would be on the Mahomet-Seymour cross country team in 2023, and this very quote would become the team motto for 2023 and a significant motivator for Addelyn herself.
On August 27, 2023, against all odds and after an arduous journey of recovery, Addelyn Arbogast completed a 2-mile race in 22:43, placing 34th, a commendable feat considering her recent ordeal. As Coach Martin expressed, the pride in witnessing Addelyn cross the finish line was immeasurable. This seventh-grader’s mettle not only saw her finish the race but also outpace numerous competitors, finishing nearly 3 ½ minutes ahead of the last contestant in her age group.
This week, as we celebrate Addelyn Arbogast as the Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week, we don’t just celebrate an athlete; we applaud the indomitable spirit of a young girl whose journey epitomizes the power of community support and personal determination. Her comeback story is not just an inspiration for the Bulldogs, but for everyone who hears it.
