Mahomet board to provide live streaming of board meetings

The Village of Mahomet Board of Trustees will soon be able to be in the board room together again.

During the Jan. 13 board of trustees’ meeting, Village Administrator Patrick Brown said that with the help of trustee Brian Metzger, the Village will be able to capture board meetings through video on a regular basis.

Since March, constituents have been able to watch board meetings via Zoom.

But Brown said board members are “eager” to get back in the boardroom — socially distanced. He added, though, that a room with board members will be tight — and adding constituents into the room would be difficult.

Brown said that the Village would make room for some people to attend in person, but having the video capabilities would allow people to watch from a different location, perhaps even the lobby, if they would like to be close.

Metzger has helped the Village make microphone purchasing decisions that will help those watching the video hear the discussion.

Brown said that he expects this feature to be available in four weeks.

When asked if the video stream of meetings will continue after COVID-19 mitigations are lifted, Brown said:

“We will continue to offer the Zoom meetings for resident as long as the Governor’s emergency declarations allow for it” Brown said. “Long-term we are certainly looking into options to live stream our meetings, but have to work out compliance and equipment issues and costs.”
