Mahomet board puts third “Gateway sign” on consent agenda
The Village of Mahomet board of trustees moved to place the purchase of a third “gateway sign” on the June 22 consent agenda.
The Village once again awarded the $22,036.00 project to Bendsen Signs and Graphics Inc.
The sign that will read “Welcome to Mahomet” will be placed on IL-47 heading north into the Village.
This is the third sign in the series. The first sign was placed on IL-47 as traffic draws into the Village and the second was placed on IL-150 heading west into the village off of Prairieview.
The Village hopes the signs will introduce and welcome visitors to the community.
Does this signage make people feel more welcome? It doesn’t make me feel more welcome and I’ve lived here for more than 30 years. You know what makes me feel welcome – when other people who live here demonstrate that they want you here. I met lots of these type of people this past spring, and I hope and pray that they stay here and encourage others like them to join us – signs or no signs!
