Both Mahomet-Seymour junior high girls’ basketball teams won championships in their own four-team round-robin tournament, which ended on Thursday (Oct. 7).

Hannah Martin added eight points for the seventh-graders.
The eighth-graders received a season-high 21 points from Ava Yeakel – including a walk-up three-pointer – in a 41-15 triumph over Tolono Unity.
M-S led 27-6 at halftime. Lily Bosworth contributed 12 points for the eighth-graders (8-1).
On Tuesday (Oct. 12), the young Bulldogs continued their winning ways at Urbana.
The seventh-graders (now 10-0) knocked off the home team, 23-15. Fonte and Breckyn Hess each tallied six points.
The eighth-graders (now 9-1) rolled up their sixth consecutive victory, handling Urbana 37-10.
Alivia Lewis was the team’s top scorer for the first time this season, tossing in nine points. Erin Dallas and Yeakel each scored eight points.
“The eighth-grade group really showed their ability to handle a press and continue to show great improvement in their free-throw shooting (finishing 9 of 15),” M-S coach Jimmy Lanphear said.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday (Oct. 13) at Champaign Edison.
