By Fred Kroner
Both the seventh- and eighth-grade Mahomet-Seymour Junior High girls’ basketball teams opened their seasons on Tuesday (Sept. 13) with road victories.
The seventh-graders started their junior high careers with a 34-11 triumph at Champaign Franklin. Katie Hunter scored 12 points and Audra Martin added six points.
The Bulldog eighth-graders scored off the opening tip and never trailed, registering a 54-6 win over Franklin.
Courtney Fonte tallied a team-high 16 points and Hannah Martin was just behind, with 14 points.
“Special shoutouts go to Marley Cloward (seventh-grader) and Aubrey Meints (eighth-grader),” M-S coach Jimmy Lanphear said. “Although neither made it into the scorebook, their toughness and tenacity on defense led them to receiving the Bulldog of the Game awards.
“Look for them wearing their blingy Bulldog necklace to school.”
The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday (Sept. 15) with another road game, at Danville North Ridge before opening their home schedule on Monday (Sept. 19) with a contest against Bloomington Evans.
