M-SJHS girls’ basketball continues to win

Both the seventh-grade and eighth-grade girls’ basketball teams at Mahomet-Seymour improved their season records to 14-1 with victories on consecutive days to start the week.
On Monday (Oct. 25), M-S prevailed twice at Rantoul Eater and followed that up on Tuesday (Oct. 26) by winning two more games at home over Mattoon.
Eleven of the 14 players who dressed for the seventh-graders against Eater scored points in a 38-7 M-S triumph.
Leading the way, with six points apiece, were Olivia Cox, Hannah Martin and Payson Steers.
The eighth-graders received a dominant performance from Ava Yeakel, who controlled the boards and posted a game-high 18 points in the Bulldogs’ 44-19 triumph over Eater.
Contributing six points apiece to the M-S cause were Lily Bosworth, Erin Dallas and Alivia Lewis.
Against Mattoon, the seventh-grade Bulldogs won 27-2, holding their opponent scoreless in the fourth quarter for the fourth straight game.
Breckyn Hess hit a team-high 10 points and Courtney Fonte added five points.
The seventh-graders are 9-0 at home this season.
The eighth-graders, meanwhile, registered their 11th win in a row, overpowering Mattoon 33-5.
Hannah Creel, Lewis and Yeakel all netted six points for M-S.
The Bulldogs return to action on Monday (Nov. 1) at Normal Parkside. The game will be the first of five in a row away from home for M-S.
