The Bulldogs’ composite team score was 15 points.

“The first meet is always a learning meet,” M-S coach Lisa Martin said. “That is why we choose to travel to our run against some great local competition.

“While we do celebrate race success, we encourage the athletes to focus on areas that they could improve upon and parts of the race that they were excited about.

“I think my favorite interaction came from a conversation with sixth-grader Keilen Mustread. When I asked what he thought of his race, his answer was simple, ‘I can’t wait to do it again.’”

M-S (1-0) returns to action on Thursday (Aug. 25) in the Danville Invitational.

Martin said the Bulldog staff was pleased by what they saw in the first meet.

The coaches could not be more excited about what lies ahead of this group of 115 athletes,” Martin said. “Some of our veterans had their best races, others found themselves reflecting on what they will work on to race better next time.

“Whatever the case, it was a great night to be a Bulldog.

She was especially gratified by the efforts of the collective sixth-grade group.

“The coaches were excited to watch so many kids go to the line for the first time ever in a Bulldog jersey,” Martin said. “Since this is the first school sport that our (sixth-grade) student-athletes can participate in, the coaches get to watch as they learn and experience the feeling of what it means to be a Bulldog and proudly wear their uniform with pride.

“It truly is an amazing experience.”
