M-SJHS baseball picks up two wins

Nolan Franz cracked three hits on Thursday (Aug. 26) as the Mahomet-Seymour Junior High baseball team whipped Paxton-Buckley-Loda 13-1.
The Bulldogs benefitted from a 10-run second-inning at Paxton.
Max Young and Jackson Bohm each had two hits. Franz and Young drove in two runs apiece.
Franz, Young and Logan Schmit all scored two runs.
Three M-S pitchers combined on a three-hitter.
Kyle Popovich pitched the first two innings and earned the win. He struck out one as did Slayton Deck in his one-inning stint. Ethan Kempher pitched the final inning and registered two strikeouts.
On Saturday (Aug. 28), the Bulldogs won at Bloomington, 12-1.
Franz, Young, Schmit and Bohm all stroked two hits. Bohm and Franz had three RBI apiece.
Paxton O’Malley scattered three hits in his four-inning stint. He walked two and struck out three.
Deck worked the final inning and registered three strikeouts. He also walked a batter and gave up one hit.
In the JV game at Bloomington, M-S used a 13-run sixth inning to post an 18-1 win.
Kempher and Ben Ohms totaled three hits apiece. Kempher knocked in five runs and also earned the pitching win, yielding two hits in three innings. He walked one and struck out five.
On Tuesday (Aug. 31), the Bulldogs dropped a 6-2 decision at Tolono Unity.
M-S was held to three hits, one apiece by Cade Ashby, Landyn Hannah and Matthew Kirby. Kirby and O’Malley drove in runs.
Ashby and Hannah knocked in runs.
Hannah pitched 4 2/3 innings and took the loss. He walked no one and struck out four batters.
M-S (5-3) has played all of its games away from home thus far and will return to action on Wednesday (Sept. 1) at Champaign St. Matthew.
