M-SJHS baseball defeats St. Matthew and Urbana

Dyllin Thomas clubbed a home run to highlight the 12-2 baseball victory posted by Mahomet-Seymour Junior High on Wednesday (Aug. 31) at home against Champaign St. Matthew.
Thomas drove in three runs and scored two.
Paxson O’Malley was 3-for-3, with three RBI and two runs scored. Parker Henry and Ben Ohms each delivered two hits. Henry knocked in two runs and Ohms tallied two runs. Logan Schmit also scored twice.
Henry’s first-inning double helped M-S take a 3-1 advantage that it never lost. Thomas hammered a three-run homer to highlight an eight-run fourth inning.
The pitching duties were shared by Camden Beedy, Tate Kimball and Bradley Jones. Beedy started and earned the win. Jones finished up with two scoreless innings.
On Friday (Sept. 2), M-S handled Urbana, 17-0.
Wil Selk and Nicolas Brauer teamed up on a three-hit shutout. Selk worked four innings, walking four, fanning five and yielding three hits.
Brauer pitched the final inning and struck out one batter.
Ethan Kempher led the offense with a 3-for-4 showing. He had two RBI and tallied two runs.
Slayton Deck and Jackson Baker each contributed two hits and three RBI.
Deck crossed home plate three times. Baker, Landon Busch, Aiden Banister and Ohms all scored twice.
On Saturday (Sept. 3), the Bulldogs went 1-0-1 against two opponents at Bloomington Evans.
M-S topped the host school, 8-3, and fought to a 4-4 draw against Chatham Glenwood.
Against Evans, O’Malley went 4 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run. He walked three and struck out four. Kempher worked the last 1 2/3 innings and issued one walk.
Thomas registered a 4-for-4 performance and delivered four RBI. Marco Casillas had two hits and scored two runs. Jones also scored twice and Schmit knocked in two runs.
Against Glenwood, Deck pitched four innings and scattered six hits to go with three walks and three strikeouts. Beedy worked three innings, striking out three and walking no one.
Ohms, Schmit, Jones and Parker Henry all notched two hits. Ohms had two RBI and Schmit scored twice.
M-S (9-2-1) has a six-game winning streak (with the one tie) and returns to action on Wednesday (Sept. 7) at Champaign Franklin.
