M-S Tennis places fourth in Apollo Conference tournament

Mahomet-Seymour won a school-record fourth consecutive dual match on Thursday, decisioning Urbana 6-3 in Urbana.
The Bulldogs (4-3 season record) won five singles matches, with each victory occurring in straight sets.
Manvika Kohli (No. 6 singles) lost just one game, Emma Clements (No. 5 singles) lost just two games and Mrinali Kesavadas (No. 2 singles) lost just three games.
Other singles’ winners for M-S were Annie Bao (No. 1) and Amalie Fried (No. 3).
In doubles, the No. 3 duo of Clements and Molly Fried registered a 6-0, 6-1 triumph.
In the Apollo Conference Tournament, hosted by Charleston on Friday and Saturday and held at Eastern Illinois University, M-S placed fourth with 27 points.
Three Bulldogs went 2-1 for the event and placed third individually in singles. They were Bao (No. 1), Kesavadas (No. 2) and Amalie Fried (No. 3).
The other three M-S singles players compiled 1-2 records at the meet and placed fourth. They were Britta Slupski (No. 4), Clements (No. 5) and Kohli (No. 6).
For the season, no M-S player has worse than a 5-5 record in singles. Bao is 6-4.
In doubles play, all three M-S entries had the same fate at conference. Each duo went 1-1 and finished in fifth place.
Bao and Kesavadas were at No. 1, Amalie Fried and Slupski were at No. 2 and Molly Fried and Clements were at No. 3.
Bao and Kesavadas have the team’s top record in doubles, 5-4.
Mattoon won the Apollo meet with 61 points, followed by Effingham (40) and Charleston (34).
M-S returns to action on Thursday against St. Thomas More at the Atkins Tennis Center.
