M-S Swimming places second at Charleston

Eden Oelze and Olivia McMurry each won an individual event and helped a relay to victory on Saturday (Oct. 30) as the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ swimming team placed second in a three-school meet at Charleston.
Oelze won the 100-yard butterfly, stopping the clock in 1 minute 6.69 seconds. McMurry was triumphant in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:00.40.
They were members of the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay, joining Kate Raver and Maddy Logsdon. They teamed up for a final time of 1:52.81.
In the team race, Charleston topped the field with 190 points. Runner-up M-S had 147 points and third-place Lincloln ended with 77 points.
Oelze added a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle and McMurry took second in the 100-yard backstroke.
Logsdon contributed second-place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle. She also had a season-best performance in the 500-yard freestyle, cutting 30 seconds off her time. She finished in 6:50.
Raver was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle.
Kiera McCoy captured third in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard freestyle.
Snaring fourth-place finishes for the Bulldogs were Anna Lagacy (100-yard breaststroke), Taylor Easter (200-yard freestyle) and Kaitlyn Stewart (100-yard butterfly).
Two other M-S relays ended in the second-place spot.
The 200-yard medley unit of McMurry, Lagcy, Oelze and Raver was the runner-up as was the 400-yard freestyle foursome of Logsdon, McCoy, Easter and Raver.
M-S (11-9) returns to action on Saturday (Nov. 6) at the Urbana Sectional.
