M-S Swimming hitting strides

M-S sophomore Olivia McMurry and freshman Eden Oelze were individual winners in Tuesday’s four-school meet at Normal Community.
McMurry captured top honors in the 50-yard freestyle, stopping the clock in 27.01 seconds.
Oelze was triumphant in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:06.30.
They were each top-four placers in all four of their events, as was senior Miranda Marcelli.
In all, eight Bulldogs registered top-four performances.
In the team race, host Normal Community was the winner with 742 points. M-S was second with 481 points. Olympia was third with 347 points and Urbana (242 points) was fourth.
McMurry placed third in the 500 freestyle (6:10.07). Oelze was third in the 200 freestyle (2:17.16). Marcelli ended fourth in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:43.47) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:15.50).
McMurry, Marcelli, Oelze and Payton Turk teamed up for a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Their collective time was 2:13.55.
Oelze, Marcelli, McMurry and Kate Raver were third in the meet-ending 400 freestyle relay, finishing in 4:23.62.
The Bulldogs’ 200-yard freestyle foursome also earned a fourth-place finish in 2:06.71. The relay included Turk, Olivia Ross, Skye Rodgers and Kate Raver.
Kate Raver was also fourth in the 100 freestyle (1:08.52).
M-S had the second-, third- and fourth-place performers in diving, led by Carly Raver (148.40 points). She was followed by teammates Turk (145.25) and Rodgers (122.85).
The Bulldogs return to action on Monday at Danville.
