M-S swimming finishes eighth at Centennial Invite
By Fred Kroner
Mahomet-Seymour placed eighth in the 15-school Centennial girls’ swimming invitational on Saturday (Sept. 17), setting three school records in the process.
Two of the marks shattered standards that had been established only three days earlier.
Freshman Talynn O’Donnell finished third in the 50-yard freestyle, with a school-record time of 25.52 seconds. She lowered the record time, set by Olivia McMurray, in 2021 (25.58 seconds).
The 14-year-old O’Donnell bettered her own record in the 100-yard freestyle, ending in third place with a time of 55.31 seconds. On Wednesday, she set the record at 57.68 seconds.
The M-S 400-yard relay became the first in school history to register a sub-4-minute time.
The foursome of senior Eden Oelze, freshman Lainey Howard, sophomore Maddie Logsdon and O’Donnell stopped the clock in 3:59.31. On Wednesday, they broke the previous record with a time of 4:06.01.
The same foursome teamed up – in the same order – for a fourth-place performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Their collective time was 1:49.39.
Three other Bulldogs secured top-eight finishes in individual events.
Oelze placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.49) and was eighth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:29.99). Howard captured eighth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.50).
M-S had no other top-10 performances.
Buffalo Grove (433 points) won the team title, with Champaign Central finishing second (339). M-S was eighth with 120 points.
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday (Sept. 20) at Stanford Olympia.
