M-S sweeps Lincoln in Apollo Conference game

Mahomet-Seymour’s softball team picked up its first two wins of the season on Tuesday (April 4) at home, sweeping an Apollo Conference doubleheader from Lincoln.
M-S won the first game, 2-1, scoring the tie-breaking run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
In the nightcap, the Bulldog bats erupted in a 16-5 victory. M-S went ahead to stay, 11-5, with an eight-run second inning that erased a 5-3 deficit.
Ava Henderson pitched a complete game in the opener. She walked no one and struck out four. In her last two outings, she has permitted one earned run.
She was backed by a three-hit performance from Madeleine Cortez, who drove in both runs. Madelyn Logsdon and Jenna Wade had the other M-S hits. Brooklyn Dyer scored a run.
In the second game, Logsdon and Wade each swatted three hits and scored three runs to spark the offense. Cortez was 2-for-2 and tallied four runs.
Also knocking two hits and driving in two runs apiece were Rio Casillas, Kenadi Granadino and Sydney Ward.
Katherine Severns pitched all five innings to record her first varsity win. She walked three and struck out three.
M-S (2-3) returns to action on Thursday (April 6) at home against Heritage.
