Abbey Akers pitched Mahomet-Seymour to victory on Thursday (May 19) in the regular-season finale, a 6-2 triumph at home over Decatur MacArthur.
In seven innings, Akers yielded four hits, walked one and struck out a season-high10 batters.
Chloe Truax and Jenna Wade each had two hits for M-S. Both of Wade’s hits were doubles.
The Bulldogs snapped a 2-2 tie with a four-run sixth inning.
Truax ended with three RBI. Maddie Logsdon and Jami Marriott each knocked in one run.
Maddie Cortez, who stole two bases, scored two of the runs. Crossing home plate once apiece were Kenadi Granadino, Truax and Logsdon.
M-S (22-5) returns to action on Wednesday (May 25) – a revised date – in a Class 3A regional semifinal game at home against either Centennial or Rantoul.
With a win on Wednesday, coach James Heinold’s M-S squad would tie its single-season school record for wins, set by the 2004 squad.
