M-S Softball season ends in loss to Canton

The Bulldogs fell short at Canton on Thursday (June 3) in the Class 3A regional championship softball game.
M-S was limited to three hits – all singles – by top-seeded Canton and dropped a 3-0 decision.
Ashley Campbell had two hits for the Bulldogs and Karley Yergler had the other one.
Canton broke a scoreless tie by scoring twice in the fourth inning. The winners added their final two runs in the sixth.
Yergler (11-6) pitched a complete game for M-S, yielding six hits in six innings, walking two and striking out 11.
The Bulldogs end the season with a 16-8 record. The team averaged 7.9 runs per game and allowed an average of 3.7 runs per game.
Five squad members finished the spring with batting averages over .300.
Yergler (.537) was the team-leader, followed by Aubrie Shore (.526), Campbell (.484), Kenadi Granadino (.359) and Abigail Akers (.338).
Yergler (37) and Campbell (32) were the leaders in runs batted in. Shore and Yergler shared the lead in runs scored with 40 apiece. Yergler had a team-high 10 stolen bases.
Shore led the team in doubles (15). Yergler had the most home runs (14) and triples (3). Yergler and Campbell each had 14 games with two, or more, hits.
Yergler was also the team’s most dominant pitcher. She threw 103 innings, allowed 62 hits, 14 walks and struck out 181 batters.
Shore had a 4-0 record and fanned 34 batters in 26 innings. Akers was 1-2 and ended with 15 strikeouts in 27 innings.
The M-S seniors were Emily Berkman, Ashley Campbell, Emma Clements, Aubrie Shore and Ashlyn Webb.
