Kadyn Jones scored on a first-half penalty kick and a Mahomet-Seymour Soccer squad with eight new starters salvaged a 1-1 tie with visiting Metamora in Tuesday’s season-opening match at Middletown Field.
“I expected a lot of growing pains this week, so I am pretty content with our opener,” M-S coach Jeremy Davis said. “Mahomet’s play was much improved in the second half.
“Our fitness allowed us to control the play quite a bit more in attacking behind their backline.”
In the junior varsity match, M-S blanked Metamora, 1-0 on a tap-in goal by Sam Hendricks.
M-S returns to action tonight at home against Centennial. The Bulldogs will play their Apollo Conference opener at 9 a.m. on Saturday, against Mount Zion in a first-round game of the M-S Bulldog Invitational.
