M-S soccer opens season with win over Bloomington
By Fred Kroner
Cayla Koerner was involved with five goals on Thursday (March 17) as Mahomet-Seymour opened the girls’ soccer season with a 7-0 win at Middletown Field over Bloomington.
Koerner scored one goal and assisted on four others.
Hitting two goals apiece for the Bulldogs were Delaney King and Emma Dallas.
Amelia Osman and Lauren Schnepper each netted one goal.
King and Grace Lietz garnered assists.
The Bulldogs outshot Bloomington, 23-3. M-S led, 4-0, at halftime.
“Like a bluegill in a winter pond, the girls were slow to open the game,” M-S coach Jeremy Davis said. “We consistently had pressure in the Bloomington side of the field but were unable to find the back of the net.”
In the final analysis, there were numerous contributors for the Bulldogs.
“Many girls had great performances,” Davis continued. “Koerner continued to put up impressive numbers being involved in the majority of goals on the night.
“Delaney King had a rocket that went in from range. Late in the game, Amelia Osman had a beautiful cutback and a sharp, low finish for a goal. Taylor Dietz and Emma Dallas both had major minutes and major impacts as new faces in the Bulldog starting lineup from last year.”
M-S (1-0) returns to action on Thursday (March 24) at Metamora.
