M-S places third at Runnin’ Red Invitational

Mahomet-Seymour’s top five runners ran within 58 seconds of each other on Saturday (Oct. 9) in the 20-school Runnin’ Red Invitational at Black Partridge Park, in Metamora.
Ava Boyd was the 12th-place runner in a field of 192 competitors. Her time for a 2.94-mile race was 19 minutes, 15.5 seconds.
The other M-S scoring runners in the varsity race were Chloe Bundren (15th in 19:21.6), Elizabeth Sims (18th in 19:26.3), Callie Jansen (29th in 20:01.5) and Grace Lietz (42nd in 20:13.9).
Seven other Bulldogs participated in the varsity race, including three others who broke the 21-minute barrier.
Emily Bednar was 55th in 20:36.4. She was followed by Ava Jansen (61st in 20:44.8) and Delaney King (62nd in 20:45.8).
The other M-S runners were Chloe Allen (117th in 22:36.6), Alyssa Christensen (153rd in 24:15.8), Natalie Parrott (182nd in 27:42.9) and Emily Bergia (184th in 28:48.2).
Dunlap was the meet champion with a team composite of 44 points. Runner-up Palatine had a tally of 90 points. M-S was third with 107 points.
Dunlap was ranked fourth in the recent Class 2A state poll by milesplit.com. M-S was ranked 14th.
In the freshmen-sophomore race, Metamora (114 points) was the meet winner. M-S was ninth with 212 points.
Lauren Bednar was 29th in a field of 134 competitors. Her time, for the 294-mile course, was 21:40.4.
The other Bulldog entries were Emmaline Culp (41st in 22:14.5), Morgan Waisath (45th in 22:27.1), McKenzie Hissong (60th in 23:10.2), Meg Turner (77th in 23:53.0) and Gabby Reeves (121st in 28:02.5).
M-S returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 12) in the Apollo Conference meet at Effingham.
