M-S places second at freshman-sophomore boys’ track and field meet at Centennial.

Mahomet-Seymour athletes swept the top four places in two running events on Wednesday (April 12) in a six-school freshman-sophomore boys’ track and field meet at Centennial.
In the 800 meters, Blake Dillman sprinted to a finish of 2 minutes, 1.8 seconds. Trailing him were teammates Ethan Ramirez (2:06.7), Joshua Franklin (2:06.8) and Ethan Peterka (2:10.5).
In the 3,200 meters, Bulldogs Auggie Gaudio (10:43.0), Henry McMurry (10:48.7), Kalen Kasper (11:02.7) and Lukas Nykaza (11:10.5) claimed the top four positions.
Ramirez ran to victory in the 1,600 meters (4:49.8). Gavin Fan was third (5:05.1) and Corbin McMinn was fourth (5:20.0).
M-S’ Travis Hoffman was a two-event winner, claiming top honors in the 300-meter hurdles (42.1 seconds) and the long jump (19 feet, 5 inches).
The Bulldogs’ other meet champion was 400-meter runner Parker Wilkins (55.7 seconds). In the same race, Nykaza was sixth (58.8 seconds).
Two other squad members secured sixth-place finishes in field events: Camden Snodsmith in the high jump (5 feet, 1 inch) and Quinten Goodie in the triple jump (34 feet, 7 inches).
The Bulldogs fared well in two relay races.
The 1,600-meter foursome of Hoffman, Dillman, Wilkins and Nykaza was the runner-up in 3:42.9. The quickest 400-meter splits were by Dillman (53.1 seconds) and Wilkins (56.0 seconds).
The 800-meter relay captured fourth place. Sharing the baton were Jack Meyer, Raife Humes, Landen McConkey and Dylan Smith. Their collective time was 1:46.6. Posting the fastest 200-meter splits were Smith (25.5 seconds) and Humes (25.6 seconds).
M-S took second place in the team race, scoring 123 points. Meet champion Normal Community totaled 130 1/3 points. Third-place Centennial had 93 points.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Friday (April 21) at the Metamora ABC Meet.
