M-S heads into Coaches vs. Cancer game with win over Normal

Savannah Orgeron notched a team-high 18 points on Thursday (Jan. 5) as the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball team overpowered visiting Normal West, 56-30.
Orgeron collected 13 of her points in the first half as M-S built a 32-9 lead at the break.
Durbin Thomas and Kylie Waldinger each downed three three-point shots and finished with 13 points. Thomas drained three of her long-distance shots in the opening half.
Abby Bunting hauled down a team-high seven rebounds. Waldinger grabbed five rebounds. Chloe Pruitt had three rebounds.
On Saturday (Jan. 7), M-S lost at unbeaten Lincoln, 46-21. The Bulldogs were unable to recover from a 12-2 first-quarter deficit.
Orgeron’s 13 points were a team-high. Thomas and Alayna Dewitt each drilled a three-point shot and scred three total points. Ava Yeakel netted two free throws to complete the Bulldogs’ scoring.
Thomas and Waldinger were the rebound leaders with five apiece. Orgeron handled four rebounds. Bunting contributed three rebounds and blocked three shots.
M-S (16-4) returns to action on Tuesday (Jan. 10) in a Coaches Vs. Cancer game at home against Mattoon. The 6 p.m. varsity game will be followed by a boys’ Coaches Vs. Cancer game between the same schools.
The Bulldogs’ junior varsity squad split their two games last week, beating Normal West, 42-11, but losing at Lincoln, 54-37.
