M-S golf wins John Macek Memorial Tournament

Mahomet-Seymour’s unbeaten boys’ golf team snagged the team title on Wednesday (Sept. 6) at the 18-team John Macek Memorial Tournament at the University of Illinois Orange Golf Course.

M-S and Effingham St. Anthony each had team composites of 303. The tie was broken by the score of each team’s fifth player.

For M-S, that was an 81 by Parker Clements (who tied for 18th in the 102-player field). For St. Anthony, it was an 86.

Bulldog Reis Claybrooke shared medalist honors, after firing a 72. He was placed second to Edwardsville’s Mason Lewis based on a scorecard playoff.

They both ended one stroke ahead of the third-place finisher.

Leif Olson (75) tied for fourth, Kelton Hennesy (76) tied for seventh and Jacob Schoudel (80) ended in 17th place.

The Bulldogs’ other competitor was Carter Henrikson (88).

On Tuesday (Sept. 5), Bulldogs Jackson Bohm and Zach Blumenshine tied for second individually leading M-S past two other schools at Monticello.

Bohm and Blumenshine each carded 40s, one stroke behind the medalist.

Aden Bergman fired a 41 and placed fifth. Tying for fifth, with a 43, was Cole Thrasher.

The other M-S participants were Riley Dowers (45) and Brogan Hennesy (48).

M-S (5-0) returns to action on Friday (Sept. 8) at the Mattoon Invitational.
