M-S Golf captures Champaign County Championship

Led by the second-place individual, Blake Harvey, the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ golf squad earned team honors on Monday (Sept. 13) in the Champaign County Invitational at Lincolnshire Fields Country Club.
Harvey fired a team-best 78 and was two strokes behind the medalist, Wade Schacht, from Champaign Central.
In the team chase, M-S had a composite of 339 to edge Central, which totaled 342, for team supremacy.
One other Bulldog finished among the top eight. Zach Courson was seventh with an 83.
M-S’ other participants were: John Schlenker (88), Brian Coyne (90), Reis Claybrooke (91) and Erik Christianson (93).
On Friday (Sept. 10) and Saturday (Sept. 11), the Bulldogs competed in the 39-school Craig Dixon Invitational, at Mattoon.
Schools played 18-hole rounds each day, one round at Mattoon Country Club and the other at Meadowview Golf Course.
M-S placed 13th with a team composite of 661. Meet champion Edwardsville had a score of 609, followed by Marmion Academy at 627.
The Bulldogs’ leader was Claybrooke. He fired rounds of 80 and 79. His total of 159 enabled him to tie for 22nd individually.
Other M-S participants were Christianson (77-90—167), Courson (81-87—168), Harvey (86-83—169), Coyne (84-95—179) and Brogan Hennesy (93-92—185).
On Thursday (Sept. 9), junior varsity players Riley Dowers and Schlenker tied for sixth-place individually for Mahomet-Seymour at Charleston as the Bulldogs placed second in a three-school Apollo Conference meet.
Dowers and Schlenker each fired 43s.
Charleston was the meet winner (163), followed by M-S (179) and Effingham (185).
Other M-S scores were: Carter Selk (45), Jacob Schoudel (48), Jackson White (50), Carson Drinkwalter (57), Luke Severns (58) and Rylan Fitzgerald (65).
M-S (4-3) returns to action on Wednesday (Sept. 15) against Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin and Urbana.
On Saturday (Sept. 11), Bulldog senior Jaedon Lager scored his first career-hole-in-one.
He aced the fourth hole at Lake of the Woods, using a pitching wedge from 150 yards. His feat was witnessed by other team members Dowers, Schlenker and Selk.
