M-S girls win two on the road

Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ basketball team opened the week with back-to-back wins on the road.
The Bulldogs decisioned Centennial 65-40 on Monday (Jan. 31) and then blitzed Urbana, 66-19, on Tuesday (Feb. 1).
The wins move coach Garret Risley’s squad to within one victory of tying the school record for single season wins. M-S is 24-4 overall with nine wins in a row.
Against Centennial, Cayla Koerner hit the 20-point mark for the sixth time this season.
Ivie Juarez picked up 15 points and Savannah Orgeron tallied 12 points. Finishing with six points apiece were Alayna DeWitt and Nichole Taylor.
Taylor hauled down five rebounds. Durbin Thomas swiped two steals.
Juarez scored 10 of her points in the second quarter as M-S enlarged a 12-5 lead after one quarter to 38-18 at halftime.
Against Urbana, Koerner led the Bulldogs in scoring for the 10th consecutive game, piling up 16 points to go with four steals.
Orgeron netted 15 points. Taylor landed 12 points and five rebounds. Juarez finished with nine points and four steals.
Abigail Bunting contributed five rebounds and three steals. Chloe Pruitt finished with four rebounds.
M-S’ first shot to tie the school record for wins comes on Friday (Feb. 4) – weather permitting – at home against Taylorville.
