M-S girls’ cross country places third at Saber Corn Classic

Mahomet-Seymour girls’ cross-country M-S placed third in the 14-school Saber Corn Classic on Saturday at St. Thomas More.
Two Bulldogs finished among the top 10 individually.
Elizabeth Sims was fifth, running the 3-mile course in 18 minutes, 41.9 seconds. She was 40 seconds behind the winner.
Teammate Klein Powell was eighth in 19:29.7.
Other M-S runners were Ella Scott (15th in 20:20.8), Olivia Bunting (24th in 20:45.9), Emily Bednar (26th in 20:50), Delaney King (27th in 20:51.0) and Shaelin Ruzich (36th in 21:21.9).
In the team chase, Monticello was the champion with a composite of 34. Runner-up Urbana Uni High had a score of 57, followed by M-S (71) and St. Thomas More (98).
“We have some more depth this year and they are a group of hard workers who have the potential to be a force to be reckoned with later on in the season,” M-S coach Kristin Allen said.
In the open race, three Bulldogs were among the top 10.
Grace Lietz ran third (21:21), Chloe Allen was fifth (21:37) and Callie Jansen was sixth (22:08).
Other M-S finishers were Ella Wolters (17th in 24:25), Alyssa Christensen (19th in 24:35), Hannah Hofbauer (23rd in 24:57), Natalie Parrott (25th in 25:09) and Gretchen Scheele (27th in 25:27).
M-S, which has no senior runners, returns to action on Saturday at the Charleston Invitational.
