M-S District pays Porter six-figures in separation agreement
The separation agreement between the Mahomet-Seymour School District and former Lincoln Trail Assistant Principal Courtney Porter was released via the fulfillment of a Freedom of Information Act request late Tuesday afternoon.
The Mahomet-Seymour School District paid Ms. Porter $100,000, $50,000 in taxable income and $50,000 in non-taxable damages, plus $50,000 to her lawyer, Ron Langacker in exchange for her resignation within the separation agreement.
Beginning July 1, 2018, the M-S School District will also pay 18-months of COBRA medical insurance payments for Porter.
The separation agreement, which was effective immediately, states that Porter was required to submit a letter of resignation effective June 30, 2018. Although no longer at work, Porter will continue to be compensated and the district will pay her medical insurance premiums per the 2017-2018 employment contract until June 30, 2018.
Porter, who had been the Assistant Principal of Lincoln Trail Elementary since 2008, was reassigned to the classroom on March 12, 2018. Per Illinois School Code, Porter was given the opportunity to have a closed hearing with the board on May 2.
At the end of the closed session, which lasted until 10:30 p.m., the board announced that they would take no further action that night.
The second closed hearing took place on May 7. After 3 hours, Porter and the district decided to part ways.
Porter was given a leave of absence between the May 7 and the end of her contract on June 30.
