M-S Boys’ Golf places third at Invitational, Cassel leads girls’ golf

The Bulldogs placed third in Monday’s six-school Champaign County Invitational at Lincolnshire Fields Country Club, in Champaign.
M-S’ team composite was 361. Meet champion Champaign Central compiled a 321 followed by the Rantoul/Paxton-Buckley-Loda cooperative team at 341.
Individually, M-S leader Sam Mitchaner tied for 11th with an 86.
Other Bulldog scores were: C.J. Shoaf (91), Grant Harvey (93), Jameson Drinkwalter (94), Jacob Louis (94) and Brandon Collins (103).
On Wednesday, Bulldogs Austin Remus and Carter Selk placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in a three-school meet at Danville’s Harrison Park.
Remus fired a 45 and Selk came in at 46.
A senior, Remus was the team’s medalist for the first time this season.
Urbana won the meet with a team total of 180. Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin was next at 188, followed by M-S at 189.
Other Bulldog leaders were Erik Christianson (48), John Wagner (50), Zach Courson (51) and Ryan Long (52).
The Bulldogs return to action today against Urbana at Lake of the Woods.
Mahomet-Seymour Girls’ golf
Senior Hannah Cassel was the M-S leader on Tuesday in a three-team meet at Lake of the Woods.
Cassel’s 52 led the Bulldogs, who finished third in the meet.
Normal University High’s team total was 159. Mattoon was next (190) followed by M-S (229).
Ainsley Winters fired a 55. Other team leaders were Cecilia Abramson (58), Gabriela Davis (64) and Elaina Shoaf (66).
M-S returns to action today at the Livingston County Invitational.
