M-S Boys’ Cross Country places second at Lee Halberg Invite

Mahomet-Seymour runners secured two of the top 10 finish spots on Saturday (Sept. 9) in the Lee Halberg Boys’ Cross-Country Invitational, held at Lincoln Park, in Springfield.
The Bulldogs placed second in the 16-school event.
Team champion Normal Community had 37 points. M-S accumulated 59 points and third-place Mundelein had 69 points.
M-S sophomore Augustus Gaudio ran fourth overall, covering the 3-mile course in 16 minutes and 18 seconds. Another Bulldog sophomore, Henry McMurry, placed 10th in 16:52.
Other M-S participants in the varsity race were Lukas Nykaza (13th in 17:16), Zach Wilcoski (16th in 17:29), Lukas Carey (21st in 17:51), Kaleb Kasper (26th in 18:03) and Corban McMinn (40th in 18:55).
In the boys’ open race, the Bulldogs also had the No.4 placer: Grant Smysor (18:24).
Other M-S open competitors were Henry Carpenter (21st in 20:08), Gavin Fan (23rd in 20:31) and Ben Schultz (24th in 20:34).
There was also a 2-mile race for freshmen. The Bulldogs had four entries: Jack VanHoorn (13th in 12:34), Blake Patrick (18th in 13:20), Jackson Koontz (24th in 14:25) and Matthew Gray (25th in 14:28).
M-S will return to action on Saturday (Sept. 16) at the Richard Spring Invitational, at Detweiller Park, in Peoria.
